Since I began my Green Blog, I have been trying my best to do this whole green thing. I've been faithfully trying, and one little thing that I have done is: I make my family recycle aluminum cans! On average, and I did the math, my family goes through about 3-12pk cases of pop (not soda) a week, I'd say. So I took an old garbage can and set it next to our usual one, this one intended for our pop cans. Before the weekend comes, I take the trashcan to the Greentree Recycling Center. Of coarse I've been doing more, but I'm saving them for a rainy blog day.
I think that is a great way to start your family into going green! It's surprising how many aluminum cans, and plastic bottles people go through in a week. That's why in my home we no longer buy bottles of water. Brita all the way!
ReplyDeleteI literally harrass people if I see them tossing cans or plastic bottles in the garbage rather than the recycling bin right next to it.
ReplyDeleteAnd just an fyi, last year for a program I took plastic bottles, cut them in half and used the bottom halfs as planters for grass. The grass grew really fast and it was something nice to have in the rooms on campus.
A Brita water filter will be on my christmas list this year! The plastic bottle idea is great too, and what is greener than using it as a planter!
ReplyDeleteThe pharmacist at work drinks a pop everyday and no matter what he always takes the bottle or can home with him to recycle. Ever since I've seen his attempt at faithfully recycling I had to join in too. Most of the time I throw the empty bottle in my car until it festers there long enough to become annoying and then I'll recycle it.
ReplyDeleteI also have a Brita at home. Have you seen the commercials for the new Zero water filter thing. It claims it's the best. I want one of those.
